Read the latest blog post which highlights the benefits of Pilates and how it maximises all-round health

As we are all aware, any type of exercise is beneficial for both your body and mind. However, if you’re looking for an exercise which maximises all-round health, look no further than Pilates.

Pilates is a total body conditioning system, which works the mind and body to achieve flexibility, strength and muscle control. It is therefore great for core control and stability, which can also help with other complaints – for example back pain – by increasing strength.

If you are new to Pilates or you’ve recently been injured and think it may be too difficult, there is no need to worry as it’s a great way to ease yourself into any kind of fitness plan. Pilates is very rehabilitative and unlike many other forms of exercise, you can do this very safely without overstressing your joints and there are variations available for many of the exercises. There is a strong focus on not stressing your ligaments and cartilage around your joints, especially your knee and shoulder joints. It conditions your muscles in a balanced way and increases your self-awareness by drawing your focus inward.

The Pilates programme we provide at Chelsea Health Club aims to increase body strength and to help you tone up by strengthening your abdominal and back muscles to stabilise the spine. You will also increase total body strength, improve coordination, develop endurance muscle, re-educate your posture and refine your control of movement. This is all achievable using only your own body weight (which after all is what we work with on a day-to-day basis).

Other benefits of Pilates include improving your mood – releasing muscle tension through stretching and mobilising your body releases those feel-good endorphins! You might also benefit from better sleep and a great distraction from your current worries as you focus on controlled movements (much needed in these times!).

Pilates also compliments any other fitness regimen you are currently doing. If you’re interested in trying out Pilates, you can do so in the comfort of your own home by visiting the Chelsea Health Club Facebook page. Lida teaches a live Pilates workout on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 11am. We hope you enjoy it!

Take care,
